The Confederation of African Football CAf says Cameroon will host the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.
According to BBC Sport, Cameroon officially accepted to host the 2021 AFCON through an official letter addressed to CAF signed by the Cameroonian Head of State, His Excellency Paul Biya.
CAF had earlier disclosed four days ago that no concrete decision had been taken the CAF Executive Committee.
This decision comes after Cote D’ivoire were handed the hosting rights of the 2021 edition.
The Ivorian Minister of Sport Danho Paulin Claude has earlier disclosed Ivory Coast was no longer a candidate to host the 2021 Africa Nations Cup, AFCON and said they had been retained as host already.
In an interview with Afrique Media, Ahmad said Ivory Coast was not ready to host the 2021 continental show piece and will host the 2023 AFCON.
Ivory Coast were on the verge to host their second AFCON in their history after that of 1984.
Ivory Coast were awarded the 2021 hosting rights on the 20th of September 2014 in Ethiopia.
Cameroon were stripped off its rights to host the 2019 AFCON following a Caf Executive Committee meeting on 30 November due to poor preparations and security issues.
Ivory Coast have submitted an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
According to soka25east, it is believed that they will now host the 2023 AFCON which was previously scheduled to be held in Guinea who may be pushed back to the following edition.
Meanwhile the decision on who will replace Cameroon to stage the 2019 AFCON will be made on 9 January at an executive committee in Senegal with Egypt and South Africa having made bids.
